Here in the US, the season of autumn brings to mind various harvest scenes; bushels of reddish apples, browning fields dotted with bright orange pumpkins, corn stalks joined together with twine… There are so many different varieties of harvest, and so many different kinds of fruit, all brought in because it has finally matured enough to be used for the purpose it was created. We are not unlike that fruit of the harvest. Many influences have gone into its produce; water, sustenance from the soil, sunlight, even the pruning of branches—all of it causes growth, and nothing is wasted. One of the songs we're playing on ElijahStreams is written and performed by Jason Gray (you can watch a video of him on this page, playing an acoustic version of it in public for the first time). The song is called, Nothing Is Wasted. I am familiar with Jason's testimony—he came out of a very abusive childhood, which left its marks on him in the form of a speech impediment. (Except when singing, interestingly) As Jason sought the Lord for healing from his past, no doubt he also asked for healing to be able to speak without stuttering. While his speech has improved, he still has trouble with it. But, he's found a freedom in being completely honest and upfront about this part of him. And the Lord has used him greatly to bring healing to many others who have experienced similar injustices done to them—those who have subsequently suffered similar scars from abuse. A few years back, when Jason debuted his very first album, I had the privilege of interviewing him over the phone. It may have taken longer than other interviews, as he struggled to get the words out, but I was way too amazed by the Holy Spirit's intense presence, to watch the time. God was all over Jason's testimony; all over this young man-work-in-progress. Now—years later—as I previewed Jason's new album, this song title, Nothing Is Wasted really intrigued me. I think when you've suffered abuse, one of the things you can't help but wonder is, "Did God see? Did God see what happened to me, and does He care?" King David apparently wondered similar things, but the answer came to him in the form of the lyrics of a Michtam (meaning "golden psalm"), which became Psalm 56. You number my wanderings; God sees. God cares. And, nothing is wasted. He cares so much; every tear we may shed is precious to Him and recorded in His book. Among all the factors going into it, God can produce beautiful fruit that—when matured—can be used to fulfill its destiny and purpose. Remember that as you listen to ElijahStream, and as you hear Jason's song, if it's healing you need, let God use it to touch your heart. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Check out our updated Top 20 Worship Songs list, and please visit our Facebook and Twitter pages.
